Weigh-In Results – Week 15

This week, I knew my weight wouldn’t be down.  Not that I’m complaining about it at all because that was sort of my strategy for the week.

Let me explain.  I finished my run a week ago and I felt absolutely wiped out.  I shot for 5 miles at 7.5MPH and ended up stopping at 3.1 miles.  Just didn’t have the energy.  I noticed that I was starting to feel hungry so I made a beeline back to my desk to eat lunch.  I’ve been feeling like I’ve been doing a good job up to this point of balancing running a calorie deficit to achieve weight loss and getting enough food in me to fuel my workouts.  This time, I didn’t feel so good about my balancing act.

Weigh-In Not So Bad After All?

Happy Tuesday all!

So I’m thinking that maybe yesterday’s weigh-in wasn’t as bad as it seemed yesterday.  I weigh in every Monday with my personal trainer, as you know, but I also weigh in on Tuesday mornings with a group of co-workers for our own little “Biggest Loser” challenge that started at the beginning of the year.

I weighed in this morning at work and the result was that I was down another pound since last week’s weigh in.  That kind of flies in the face of yesterday’s result of going up 0.6 pounds.  I’m not sure which is a more correct reading but it does give me the sense that maybe I’m being given a second chance, so to speak, of continuing the weight loss momentum.  Diet wise, this week so far has been going well so I think as long as I keep up at this rate I should be in for a good number next week.  I hope at least.

Calling All Female Athletes/Writers

As I was searching through my normal roll call of fitness related sites, I came across the following nugget courtesy of Her Sports.

Her Sports is a bi-monthly magazine that targets women who are big into sports, fitness, health and nutrition and they’re looking for individuals to contribute to their magazine.

I’ve come across a number of talented female writers over the last several months and thought that maybe one or more of you might be interested in turning it into a potentially paying gig.  They advertise rates of $150-$450 per article.

Anyway, here’s the link to anyone who might be interested.

Weigh-In Results – Week 4

Happy Tuesday everyone!

I think there are a lot of reasons to feel good this morning.  I had a great workout with my personal trainer yesterday afternoon and then a great karate class last night.  It was long day physically with the multiple workouts but I’m very happy with the results.

And speaking of results, yesterday was the latest weigh-in and body fat measurement.  Last week’s numbers were 200.6 lbs and 19.5% body fat.  This week?  198.6 lbs. and 19.0% body fat.  Back below 200 again!

I totally wasn’t expecting this result.  I’d been doing really well working out and eating properly for the first half of the week but started to slip a little during the latter half.  I think running the 5K on Sunday really helped as Sundays have typically been off days for me.  Needless to say, I’m really excited with the numbers.  I think I’ve really got momentum on my side now and am recommitted to continuing the progress and delivering even better results next week!

New PR At The 5K Distance!

With the 5K race still on tap for this Sunday, I wanted to get an idea today of where I stood physically at that distance.  I hopped on the treadmill at the gym over lunch yesterday and the result was a new personal record for the 5K distance.

When I ran my first 5K about a year and a half ago, I clocked in at 27:19.  Obviously, that’s an improvement of about 2 1/2 minutes.  I’m really excited about this!  I’ve done a number of runs recently where my 5K time would have ended up somewhere in the high 25 to low 26 minute range but this is the first time in a while where I attempted to run the 5K distance as fast as I could.

I think I’m about as ready as I’ll be for the 5K on Sunday.  The weather is supposed to be 30 degrees and sunny which is about as good as you could hope for for January in Wisconsin!  My main concern really is the running outdoors.  I’ve never really run in winter conditions before.  Perhaps an outdoor run on Friday will at least get me used to running in cold weather.

Today, I’ll be on the spin bike for a while and then maybe a short treadmill run afterwards or some ab work.  I haven’t decided yet.

One last food related point, I think I’m finding granola to be my snack of choice.  I’ve started eating it in the morning and occasionally as a snack and I’m really enjoying it.  The only thing is I haven’t found a brand I’m 100% sold on yet.  I’ve got a box of Quaker Natural Granola at work right now but I’m considering other brands.  Any suggestions?

Have a great hump day!

Weekend Wrap Up

Hey everyone,

The good news…I seem to be kicking this chest cold of mine before it’s gotten too bad.  Strangely enough, the two things that have helped me feel better is making a chicken parmesan for dinner and catching my daughter as she jumped from the top of the stairs to have me catch her.  Sometimes it’s the little things you do with your family that have the biggest impact!

The bad news…Catching my daughter was the only exercise I got today though.  I just didn’t have the energy with the chest cold.  I think the worst is behind me though so I’m hoping for a solid workout with my personal trainer tomorrow and at karate tomorrow night.  Tomorrow is my next weigh-in.  Last week’s numbers were 201.8 lbs. and 19.7% body fat.

Heading off to bed for the night now.  Here’s hoping for a great healthy week ahead for all of you!

P.S.  I felt the baby kick for the first time this weekend.  Boy, how I missed that!
