Weigh-In Not So Bad After All?

Happy Tuesday all!

So I’m thinking that maybe yesterday’s weigh-in wasn’t as bad as it seemed yesterday.  I weigh in every Monday with my personal trainer, as you know, but I also weigh in on Tuesday mornings with a group of co-workers for our own little “Biggest Loser” challenge that started at the beginning of the year.

I weighed in this morning at work and the result was that I was down another pound since last week’s weigh in.  That kind of flies in the face of yesterday’s result of going up 0.6 pounds.  I’m not sure which is a more correct reading but it does give me the sense that maybe I’m being given a second chance, so to speak, of continuing the weight loss momentum.  Diet wise, this week so far has been going well so I think as long as I keep up at this rate I should be in for a good number next week.  I hope at least.

Hitting The Run

Happy Tuesday everyone and everybody knows (or should know) that Tuesdays are Lost days!  Can’t wait for tonight!

I posted my weekly weigh in results a little early this week (a little late getting around to posting) and was really excited with the results.  Had another solid workout with my trainer yesterday.  We started with an 8 minute spinning circuit followed by leg work (squats and kettlebell lunges), upper body (kettlebell rows and LOTS of push-ups) and abs (medicine ball crunches and the usual planks).  All that along with an evening of sparring at karate and you can probably understand why I slept pretty well last night.

Circuit City! (And Weigh-In Results – Week 8)

That’s what it felt like yesterday during my session with the personal trainer.  Instead of our normal work with the weights and the medicine balls, she leads me to the gym’s yoga studio.  Needless to say, I was intrigued with what was to follow.

I walked in to find all manner of exercise equipment laid out for me – bosu balls, dumbbells, barbells, steps.  There was no question about it.  We were doing circuits.  And probably a lot of them.

And circuits we did!  I’ll try not to be exhaustive in listing all the exercises we did but some of the more prominent ones included barbell curls on the bosu ball, burpees with push-ups, dumbbell military presses, barbell squats and push-up circuits.  Oh yeah, and there was running involved between each set just to “keep the heartrate up” as my trainer likes to remind me regularly.  Like the rest of the workout isn’t accomplishing that already!

Waiting For The Snow

Good morning all,

We’re currently under a winter storm warning here in warm and sunny Wisconsin.  It started early this morning and we’re expected to get 8 to 12 inches total when all is said and done.  Looks like I’m going to be getting an extra upper body workout tonight pushing the snowblower around!

The weather won’t stop me from getting to the gym today though (it’s only about a half mile up the road though so don’t get overly impressed).  Today’s goal – 5 miles on the treadmill.  I’m looking to get back into the groove today with a nice steady longer run.  My body’s been resting for the majority of the last three days so physical issues shouldn’t hold me back.  It should be a recipe for success.

The Struggle

We’re halfway through the week and this week, thankfully, seems to be moving along a little better than the last one.

Yesterday’s workout was a relatively brief one.  I did a short two mile run on the treadmill followed by a little ab work and some stretching.  I find myself still protective of my knee so I opted not to push the distance this time around.  I want to make sure that the joint is sturdy and sound for the long term instead of trying to push the distance on a single run and risk further injury.

My knee continues to feel OK.  I’m trying to slowly build a good training base to get myself back up to full speed as opposed to just pushing it.  Knee issues seem to be something that will be an ongoing issue for me that will need constant revisiting.  I think working to limit the overexertion of the joints seems to be the correct path to take even if it means limiting the duration or intensity of my workouts.  I pushed it last year in training for the half marathon and my IT Band issues lingered for months.  I’d much rather run a slower pain-free race versus one that hurts for several miles.

Weigh-In Results – Week 6 (And Lost Returns Tonight!)

I wish you all a happy Groundhog Day!  Today is known to me by a much different moniker.  It’s the one day I have looked forward to more than any other during the TV viewing season.  Yes, my friends, the season premiere (the FINAL season premiere, sadly) of Lost is tonight!  More on that in a little bit.

Yesterday marked the return of workouts with my personal trainer (good to have her putting me through a “proper” workout again), the first real workout in my new shoes (they feel great so far) and the return of the knee pain free workout (still feeling great too).  3 for 3!

And today also marked the latest weekly weigh in.  Today’s results were truly unexpected.  I weighed in yesterday at 195.8 lbs (down a full 2.0 lbs) and my body fat measurement was 18.4% (down 0.6%).  Both of these numbers are fantastic and I’m very excited.
