Back For A Short While

Seeing as I’ve been gone from here for the last few weeks, I imagine I owe everyone who has continued to visit here an explanation.

Short answer – my schedule got too full and something had to give.  Not the best answer I suppose but it is the truth.  I’ve had a lot going on at work lately that’s required a lot of my time and by the time I get home at night I just want to take it easy and hang out with my wife and daughter.  No offense to anyone reading this but they’ll always come first.

I’d like to think that things will slow down here over the summer but I get the sense that this won’t be the case.  A lot of initiatives going on at work and our second daughter will make her debut just eight short weeks from now.  My guess is that I’ll only be updating sporadically for the near future.  For that, I apologize.  I really wish I could be on here more frequently as I really enjoy the community of people but sometimes priorities and responsibilities spin you in a different direction.

With that being said, I did want to give you all an update on what’s been going on from a fitness and training perspective since I last jumped on and, fortunately, a lot of it is good news.

Guess The Lie Challenge

Hey everybody!  It seems a little wild that it’s the middle of the week already.  Seems like the week has been flying by.  Hope it has for you too!

I wrote about yesterday’s run here already and I’m just not sure what to write about fitness-related so I’m taking a page out Marathon Maiden’s book and today will give you the “Guess The Lie Challenge”.  The idea is that I give you a list of nuggets about me and my past and you try to guess which ones are fact and which ones are fiction.  Ready?  OK.

I’ve listed a total of 9 items below.  Of them, 6 are true and 3 are false.  Can you guess which is which?

Weigh-In Results – Week 11 (Uh Oh!)

I had a nice little streak going.  Emphasis on the past tense of that word in there – had.  I had gone 10 straight weekly weigh-ins either losing weight or holding steady from the previous week.  Alas, that streak is now over.

I weighed in today at 194.2 pounds.  That’s up 0.6 pounds from last week.  My body fat percentage came in at 17.5% which is down a whopping 0.9% from last week (which leads me to believe that it’s more of a fluke reading than an actual result).

I’m disappointed.  Not in the result itself because I don’t think it’s terribly surprising given my activity of the last week but it’s disappointing nonetheless.  The ironic thing is that I think overall I ate healthier this week than I have most weeks up to this point.  I think I just ate too much of that healthy stuff.

Almost There!

Happy Thursday everyone!  Just one more day until Friday and then the weekend will be upon us.  Can’t wait!

So, I ended up missing my workout yesterday.  Work stuff unfortunately got in the way of letting me get out of the office for an hour.  I wasn’t 100% disappointed because my legs felt dead tired yesterday and I’m not quite sure why.  Not sore or injured.  Just tired.  On Monday, I did a heavy leg and cardio workout with my personal trainer followed by sparring in the evening so I’m sure that contributed.  But after a relatively light workout on Tuesday I was surprised to still be feeling fatigue on Wednesday.

Either way, I’m feeling pretty good today.  I’m a little nervous about how my knee will feel but it’s usually only affected by running.  We won’t be doing a lot of that today so I think we’ll be OK.  Mondays tend to be more cardio and lower body while Thursdays are more upper body.

Weekend Wrap Up

Hey everyone,

The good news…I seem to be kicking this chest cold of mine before it’s gotten too bad.  Strangely enough, the two things that have helped me feel better is making a chicken parmesan for dinner and catching my daughter as she jumped from the top of the stairs to have me catch her.  Sometimes it’s the little things you do with your family that have the biggest impact!

The bad news…Catching my daughter was the only exercise I got today though.  I just didn’t have the energy with the chest cold.  I think the worst is behind me though so I’m hoping for a solid workout with my personal trainer tomorrow and at karate tomorrow night.  Tomorrow is my next weigh-in.  Last week’s numbers were 201.8 lbs. and 19.7% body fat.

Heading off to bed for the night now.  Here’s hoping for a great healthy week ahead for all of you!

P.S.  I felt the baby kick for the first time this weekend.  Boy, how I missed that!

It’s A Girl!

We were just at the doctor’s office for an ultrasound and found out that we’re having a girl!  This will be our second to go along with big sister Josephine!

We’re over the top excited right now!  Today’s a good day!

1 Bike + 1 Run = 2 Tired Legs

First, the good news.  I did manage to successfully get on the treadmill and run last night.  I’ve mentioned before how working out in the evening has been a challenge for me and last night was no different.  I contemplated for a few minutes whether it would be best to hit the treadmill or to sit on the couch and take it easy for the night.  Thankfully, I made the right choice and I’m glad I did.

On Tuesdays, I usually try to do a longer run (recently, it’s been between 4 and 5 miles).  Last night, I made it 1.5 miles.  Under normal circumstances, that would be a disappointing results but I’m looking at it as an accomplishment instead of a missed goal.  Here’s my logic – I rarely run at night.  My motivation and energy levels are down.  It’s why I much prefer working out midday.  I didn’t want to work out at all.  But I did.  I put on the shorts and shoes and made it happen.  And for that I’m proud.  And I feel much better about my choice today.  The next time I run, I’ll be shooting for the 4-5 mile distance but today I’m satisfied with 1.5 miles.
